That’s how we usually touch something that seems delicate. Like caressing.

And texture, even the anticipation of texture after the first visual contact, is one of the essential elements in the world of retail. However, its measurement is not simple.

To do this, there were haptometers, systems whose goal was to measure tactile perception and let us know the degree of functionality of the sense of touch. However, even though they could provide us with a scale, it was related to tactile sensitivity and not tactile perception.

In other words, the haptometer can tell us how sensitive a person is to touch at different points, but nothing about the perception of different textures.

Texture is important, for example, in packaging as it anticipates the quality of the product it contains.

To solve this, the haptographer is born. It consists of two rubber rings that are placed on the same hand and serve to measure the consumer’s reaction to the textures they touch.

All of this without any cables and in a comfortable way. It is a device that, by design, combines data from the device itself and from an EEG or NIRS. The haptographer’s software “interprets” tactile perception based on measurements from both sources.
